How is a Geoship dome different from other structures I might look at?The combination of bioceramic materials and a geodesic design sets Geoship apart. What that means for you is that you're getting a structure that's not just durable but also eco-friendly. Think of it as a blend of the latest material technology with a design that maximizes efficiency and resilience. When you're weighing your options, remember that our domes are both forward-thinking and environmentally conscious.
-
What do the domes come equipped with?Depending on your final order choices, you can opt for an open floor plan or a fully integrated home solution. Our fully integrated options include everything from windows and doors to appliances and finishes, all designed for optimal beauty and performance.
-
How does the bioceramic material impact the environment compared to traditional building materials? Our bioceramic material offers significant environmental benefits. It has a reduced carbon footprint compared to traditional building materials, making it more eco-friendly. Additionally, its exceptional durability ensures a longer lifespan for our domes, resulting in the use of fewer resources over time. At Geoship, we are committed to creating structures that are both innovative and sustainable, minimizing our impact on the planet.
-
Can I connect multiple domes together?Absolutely! Our designs allow for connecting multiple domes, offering endless possibilities for configurations and dome constellations. We will be going to market with a set catalog of configurations to start, with the goal to expand to additional offerings and possibilities shortly after.
-
Can the domes have more than one story?Yes, certain models feature an integrated loft, allowing for additional living space.
-
What is the typical lifespan of a Geoship dome structure?Geoship domes are designed to stand the test of time. Thanks to the durability of the bioceramic material and the strength of the geodesic design, you can expect a Geoship dome to last for generations with a design life estimated to last up to 500 years. It’s not just a house; it’s a legacy.
-
Can I buy the bioceramic material by itself?Currently, we don't offer our bioceramic material separately. It's a product we've developed and are continuously refining specifically for our domes.
-
How do the domes perform in various climates and extreme weather?Geoship domes are built to withstand a wide range of climates, including cold, desert, and tropical environments. The geodesic structure is incredibly strong, capable of handling heavy snow loads and seismic activity. The ceramic material resists rot and mold, reflects heat, and the deep insulation cavities provide high R-values. An innovative venting system under development will further enhance passive air conditioning for extreme conditions.
-
How are the domes sealed and are they waterproof? The domes are sealed with bioceramic, an inorganic polymer that forms waterproof joints and has minimal thermal expansion, providing excellent protection against the elements.
-
What material are the domes made of?Our domes are constructed from bioceramic, a highly durable and non-toxic material made from raw earth minerals and natural fibers. This innovative, all-ceramic composite is fireproof, mold-resistant, and free from petrochemicals, eliminating the need for conventional construction materials like roofing, insulation, and paint. The result is a sustainable, healthy living environment built to last.
-
Why are bioceramic domes non-toxic?Unlike conventional homes that may use materials containing harmful chemicals, our domes are made entirely from non-toxic substances. We avoid any materials listed on the Living Futures Institute's "red list" of potentially toxic chemicals and are working towards certification with the Living Futures Institute and WELL standards.
-
Do I need to place more than one reservation if I want multiple domes? No, you only need to place a single reservation. As we approach production, we will work with you to finalize the number and size of the domes you wish to order. This will be part of the order finalization process.
-
Am I reserving a specific dome model when I place a reservation? Not yet. By placing a reservation, you’re securing your place in our production queue. When it’s time to convert your reservation into an order, our team will assist you in selecting the specific dome model, size, and any customizations you desire.
-
What is a reservation?A reservation is the first step in the process of ordering a Geoship dome. By placing a refundable reservation, you secure your priority status as a future customer, ensuring your spot in our production queue. While this initial reservation records your preferences, no details are finalized until we reach out to convert your reservation into an order closer to the production date. This process helps us gauge interest and plan our production schedule effectively.
-
How is the delivery queue determined?Geoship rewards our earliest and most engaged community members with priority delivery. We're excited to announce that a portal where you can view your current queue status is coming in the near future. Stay tuned for more details on this new feature! Is there any warranty or after-sales support for the domes?Absolutely. We stand by the quality of our domes and offer a comprehensive warranty: 3 years covering everything and a lifetime warranty for the structural integrity of the dome. After-sales support is crucial for us because we want to ensure that you're satisfied and secure in your Geoship dome. Our team is always ready to assist with any concerns or queries you might have post-purchase.
-
What is the cost of a Geoship dome? The first dome available will be the Amma, a 36’ dome featuring 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 1,663 square feet of space, priced at $299,000. This is our initial go-to-market price, which we expect to become more affordable as we scale our production process. Please note that the price does not include the cost of purchasing land, obtaining permits, or setting up utilities. For more information about other upcoming dome options and expected future pricing, please visit our Domes page.
-
How do I reserve a dome?To reserve a dome, start your reservation process here. The first step is to secure your position in the priority delivery queue by placing a refundable $500 reservation deposit. Next, you will be asked to provide additional details based on your goals for your dome. Our team will use this information to match you with the dome model that best fits your needs and guide you through converting your reservation into a confirmed order.
-
What is the benefit of being in the "Priority Delivery Queue"?Being in the Priority Delivery Queue ensures that your dome is produced and delivered as early as possible within your wave, giving you prioritized access to our innovative bioceramic domes.
-
Will the pricing on the website be honored when it’s time to convert my dome into an order? The prices currently featured on our website are estimates and may change as we get closer to production. When it’s time to convert your reservation into an order, we will confirm your interest and finalize a price quote based on your specific preferences. Remember, your reservation is refundable, so you can make decisions with confidence as we approach the production phase.
-
Can I get homeowners insurance for my dome?Yes, because Geoship domes are permitted as "real estate," owners are generally eligible for homeowners insurance. However, due to the evolving nature of climate risks and insurance requirements, we cannot guarantee coverage in all situations. Geoship’s innovative materials and resilient design are well-suited to address modern concerns of insurance agencies and underwriters. We are actively working to make the insurance process easier.
-
Why should I place a reservation now?Placing a reservation early secures your position in our production queue, giving you priority access to our bioceramic domes as they become available. Early reservations also play a crucial role in validating our product development, helping us tailor our production to meet demand. Plus, your reservation is fully refundable, so there’s no risk involved. While all early reservations are prioritized, your specific place in the queue may vary based on factors such as your location, investment status, and the dome model you select.
-
What happens after I place my reservation?Placing a reservation secures your spot in our order queue. As production nears, we will reach out to you to convert your reservation into a confirmed order. During this process, you’ll be able to select floor plans, customizations, and receive a detailed cost quote. Orders are processed chronologically based on when reservations were made, and we’ll notify you via email when it’s time to finalize your dome's configuration and lock in pricing.
-
What is the estimated delivery timeline? Our first available product will be the Amma—a 2-bedroom, 2-bath bioceramic geodesic home. We anticipate starting the delivery of our first domes in Northern California in 2025 and expect to begin scaling national deliveries in 2027. However, these timelines could change due to production schedules and other factors. Domes will be delivered on a schedule based on “waves” within the priority delivery queue.
-
What kind of payment options do you offer? We are committed to offering flexible payment options to meet different needs. While upfront payment is available, we are also developing a structured payment plan that will align with key milestones in the production and installation process. This approach will allow you to secure your Geoship dome and manage payments in a way that best suits your situation. Geoship does not currently offer financing at this time. Customers requiring financing are advised to obtain a residential construction loan from a mortgage lender of their choice.
-
How are domes assembled and how long does it take? Our team handles the assembly, which typically takes less than four weeks for the frame, exterior and interior panels, windows, and entryway. Additional time may be needed for site preparation and foundation, depending on the location.
-
How does the permitting process work? The Geoship Amma is currently being approved through the FBH (Factory-Built Housing) process, which allows it to be installed throughout California. This state-level process covers all above-ground elements of the home, simplifying the overall permitting process. However, local authorities still need to review and approve the foundation, utility routing, and connections to ensure they meet specific site requirements. Geoship handles the FBH approval, but customers will need to work with local authorities to secure permits for the foundation and utilities. Keep in mind that site conditions can significantly affect installation costs. Over time, Geoship aims to streamline the integration with the ground, making local approvals quicker and easier.
-
If I'm a developer, how can I check if I can build a Geoship dome on a particular piece of land? The best first step is to contact your local building department for information on zoning and building codes for your specific parcel of land. Keep in mind that building codes and zoning regulations, while related, can have different requirements. Our team is also available to provide advice and support if you need it.
-
Do Geoship domes align with building regulations?Geoship domes are designed to meet the International Building Code and are certified as factory-built housing, ensuring they comply with established standards for permanent structures. Our innovative use of bioceramic, which shares similar characteristics with traditional cement, ensures compatibility with building department requirements. We offer complete homes, produced to customer specifications and ready for occupancy faster than any other alternative. By securing factory-built housing certification and state-level regulatory approvals, we can significantly speed up the installation process. This approach simplifies permitting and reduces the need for extensive local inspections, allowing us to deliver a holistic, turnkey home as a fully equipped product.
-
How does Geoship plan to utilize the funds raised? We will use the funds raised for engineering, manufacturing, and scaling our production capabilities to enhance our product and make Geoship domes more accessible. Our plan includes: Building a world-class team Establishing a pilot factory Delivering our 2-bedroom, 2-bath geodesic homes in 2025 Starting low-volume manufacturing in mid-2025 Launching a high-volume factory in 2026 - 2027 This growth will enable Geoship to expand beyond geodesic domes and transform the housing market. By investing in us, you're directly contributing to a future of innovative and sustainable housing.
